Summer is literally here (can you believe it!) and vacations are underway! Now is the time to start thinking about what you plan on reading during the long summer months.
The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah
Check out The Coldest Winter Ever here!
Only because it is 100% my favorite book of all time, I am going to go ahead and make it my top pick. The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah is a MUST READ. It is definitely an oldie but goodie. The book is based out of Brooklyn, New York and deals with a young girl who is the daughter of a prominent drug- dealer. Ms. Winter is living the perfect “Brooklyn” life until everything spirals out of control when her father goes to jail for drug operation charges depleting all of the money needed for survival. This feisty girl learns the hard way that her version of “street smart” isn’t the best way to survive and the reader becomes captivated in seeing how the teenager gets through life lessons and makes tough decisions.
I am obsessed with this book! While honestly I can’t relate to the main character at all, it opened up my eyes to things I couldn’t imagine existing in a young person’s world. From clubbing at 12 years old to being forced into a children’s home; the life of this girl was soo fascinating to me and caused so much open dialogue with others. Trust me, you will thank me later.
The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena
Check out The Couple Next Door: A Novel here!
Next we have “The Couple Next Door” by Shari Lapena. Not only does this book keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat; but it also gives you loads of twist and turns that make you want to stay up all night and read for hours! This book is about a young couple and their “friendly” neighbors… or so they think. The main characters seem to have the perfect life however one night during a dinner party, a crime is committed. The book then takes you on the adventure of unraveling the family’s true colors and all the secrets within their lives.
This is one of my favorites because it is an easy read. It is similar to Gone Girl and Girl on the Train! You find yourself trying to figure out who the culprit of the crime is and are blown away once everything unfolds.
Into The Water by Paula Hawkins
Check out Into the Water: A Novel here!
Last on our list is Into The Water by Paula Hawkins. This is the author of everyone’s favorite, Girl on the Train. I am currently reading it and it has been on MANY lists of top books to read. This is a thriller book based out of an isolated English village of Beckford. The twist of the book deals with the reader trying to figure out the cause of death of one character and determining if her death was in fact suicide or was she murdered for being a “nuisance” to the town.
“But have they all jumped? Or have some of them actually been pushed?”
I am half way through the book and so far so good! I was a huge fan of Girl on a Train so I am confident that this one will keep me on my toes as well. If you are currently reading this one give me a shout in the comment section with your opinion!
There you have it! 3 top books to keep you booking through the summer!! If there are any more favorites feel free to drop them in the comment section below!
Thanks! I love reading and I hadn’t heard of any of these books! I usually navigate to true crime and biographies, but these sound right up my alley!! Will definitely check them out!

I love when people give book recommendations and share the short summary of the book! I mean for me, even if I read the whole book, it’s always difficult to narrow down into few paragraphs. Maybe it’s because I’m not as bookworm type of person, but I always find it interesting. The first book seems like something I’d be interested in!

You would love the first book for sure! It can be hard to do a summary but so many people ask for suggestions that you get use to giving the brief version of the full book lol

Coldest Winter Ever is a great book. I read that in my 20’s. I think it kept me from making some bad choices in those days.

It’s a great book for the younger generation! I didn’t read it until my adult years but a lot of my friends read it in high school.

I usually lean more towards sci-fi fantasy but I did enjoy reading Girl on the Train. Liked how it was paced and its twists and turns! I’d definitely check out Into the Water.

The closest to sci-fi for me is the Game is life series and I’m not sure if that is considered true sci-fi. Into the Water has just as many turns as Girl on the Train! Let me know what you think if you decide to read!

Ugh, I’ve been meaning to read Into the Water! The premise is so interesting, and I loved The Girl on the Train, so I’m sure this one will be a winner as well! I liked the Couple Next Door as well, but wasn’t a huge fan of the ending.

The ending was very different! That’s how I feel about the beginning of Into the Water but the end of the book is insane!

I read The Coldest Winter Ever when I was in high school. Such a great book! I think I will re-read it again this summer. Midnight by Sister Souljah was good too!

This was circulating around my high school as well but I never got into it until now! I wanted to read the book featuring Midnight however he just wasn’t a favorite character of mine but I did hear the book was just as good. I may go ahead and check it out!
